We write this unsolicited letter as an endorsement for Steve Scutt, the proprietor of A&A Woodworks. When we were shopping for someone to remodel our kitchen we insisted on seeing letters of recommendation and having access to phone numbers of recent clients. So, when our project was finished we thought it was only fair that we too wrote concerning our experience with our contractor - in this case Steve.

In the summer of 2005 we purchased a home that needed a new kitchen. After a thorough process of contractor interviews and bids we decided to hire Steve. We based this decision on a combination of price, quality, and past work. We knew that Steve was a craftsman - an artist with wood - and we felt good about his demeanor. A number of things impressed us about his work and his professionalism. Let me mention one. We had narrowed our choices to two contractors. When Steve came to our home to give us his bid I noticed that as he got out of his truck he took out a large piece of cardboard and then put it underneath the truck to ensure he didn't have oil leak on our driveway. This was a sign of the type of person Steve is and the commitment he makes with his clients to care for their home as much as they do.

Our kitchen is fantastic. It is beautiful! There is great attention to all details. The experience with Steve was wonderful. He was patient with our hundreds of questions. He took time to explain everything he was doing. He knows EVERYTHING about construction - he was a great advisor on every project we were doing in the home.

We have had close to 15 different projects and 15 different crews over the past few months during the remodeling. All were smaller in scope than the kitchen. However, we found a common pattern among all contractors except Steve - and that is over-promising and under-delivering. Most of the others did fine work that was acceptable - sometimes even outstanding, but most had a problem of reliability. We never knew when they would show up even after setting appointments. Many left a messy area that we ended up cleaning. Steve on the other hand was very conscious about our time. He did everything he could to make accommodations that took him extra time and effort but made us more comfortable during the remodel.

Steve basically treated our home as if it was his own. We want to offer our highest recommendation for whom we consider a true professional and gentleman.

Dear Steve,

I just wanted to take this opportunity to sincerely thank you for the fantastic and beautiful work in the extensive remodel you recently completed on Cindy's and my home. Do you realize that your work resulted in major changes to almost every room in our 4000 square foot house, plus the front porch, and workshop? There are so many aspects of this job that we are grateful to you for that it is impossible to list them all. But I did just want to highlight a few things that immediately come to mind that are noteworthy about the job:

• You worked with us from the very beginning on the concept of removing a wall to combine our front room with our living room, to remove a full bathroom and replace with a wet bar and library, effectively doubling the size of our kitchen, including relocating our stairway to make room, replacing our furnace and air conditioning, including ductwork, and finishing the basement. You developed the initial concept and final plans for our lighting as well as our floorplans, as well as our cabinet plans for the kitchen, entertainment center, and downstairs kitchen.
• You served as a great coordinator and general contractor for all the other folks involved in this project, conscientiously checking on all their work, finding problems, and having them fix them. This included contractors for our gas fireplace, cabinets, plumbing, electrical, heating and air conditioning, insulation, tile, flooring, lighting, network, phone, sound, and even the painters. You worked extremely well with all these contractors, including our interior designer. As you know, we had some difficulties, as you would expect in any substantial job, but you always took care of everything very professionally.
• You moved our old kitchen, including cabinets, downstairs, making everything fit and look like it had been developed there from scratch. You built new cabinets for the downstairs kitchen, for our gas fireplace, for our entertainment center, for our library, and again, everything looks so natural and beautiful, it looks like it just belongs.
• You developed our theater room to spec to ensure the best sound qualities and sound isolation.
• As always, your work was filled with your trademark attention to detail and quality. One of the things I have always admired and enjoyed in working with you is the enjoyable, pleasant way you approach your job. We were always very happy to have you in the house. Cindy particularly appreciates the way you always kept your work area confined and always clean at the end of the day (even cleaning up for your somewhat messier subcontractors).
• Finally, I can truly say that the value of your work is as great or greater than its price. I never once felt that I needed to question the fairness of your price or the diligence you played in picking subcontractors and pricing their work. Cindy and I feel you went above and beyond the call of duty. We also appreciate that you stayed with our job to help us get done as quickly as possible, even though it cost you other jobs that may have been more profitable for you.

As always, Steve, we recommend your work highly to all our friends and will welcome you back when we have more to do.

We were leery about hiring just any contractor to finish our basement since they would have unrestricted access to our home during the day. As we interviewed contractors, it became quite apparent that you are very honest and trustworthy.
